Emergency Orthodontist in Thibodaux & Houma, LA

True orthodontic emergencies are uncommon, but broken appliances, loose brackets, poking wires, or unexpected discomfort can happen during treatment. If you're concerned about something, call LaHaye Orthodontics. We'll help determine whether you need to be seen or whether the problem can safely be managed at home until your next visit.

Loose Bracket or Band

If a bracket or band becomes loose but is still attached, leave it in place if possible. If it is irritating your cheek or lip, cover it with orthodontic wax. Call our office if it is uncomfortable, completely detached, or you're unsure whether it needs attention.

Poking or Loose Wire

If a wire is irritating your cheek or gum, try covering the area with orthodontic wax. You may also be able to gently reposition a small protruding wire with a clean cotton swab or pencil eraser. If the wire continues to bother you, contact our office.

General Soreness

Some tenderness is normal after braces are placed or adjusted. A warm saltwater rinse can help soothe irritated areas, and an over-the-counter pain reliever may be used as directed if needed. Orthodontic wax can also help protect cheeks and lips while they adjust to braces.

Lost or Broken Retainer

If your retainer is lost, cracked, broken, or no longer fits properly, contact us rather than continuing to wear an appliance that doesn't fit correctly. Replacing or repairing a retainer promptly can help prevent unwanted tooth movement.
